There’s a girl in Kericho who used to wake up before the sun, fetching water and getting her siblings ready before she could even open her own books. A few weeks ago, we told you her story. We called her Naliaka. She isn’t one person; she is hundreds of bright, hardworking young Kenyans whose dreams have quietly stalled at the door of an invoice they couldn’t pay.
On 27th June 2026, at Ngong Road Forest, something happened that Naliaka will probably never see with her own eyes, but will feel for the rest of her life. You showed up.
You laced up your shoes. You brought your friends, your colleagues, your families, your student IDs, and your Ksh 1,000 and Ksh 2,000 registrations. You walked through the green quiet of the forest, not for medals or photographs, but so that somewhere, a young person you will probably never meet gets to stay in school.
We are still counting the full impact of that morning, but what we already know is this: the turnout was strong, the energy was even stronger, and the CHRM Scholarship Fund is richer for it, not just in shillings, but in the number of people who chose to care about a stranger’s tuition.
To our students who came out in numbers, who walked alongside professionals and mentors and asked questions about careers and internships along the way, thank you. This walk was as much about your own growth and networking as it was about the students we’re raising funds for, and you showed up fully for both.
To DTB, whose partnership was central to making this walk the success it was, thank you. When a bank chooses to stand behind young people’s education, it says something powerful about what kind of Kenya is possible, one where institutions and individuals alike decide that talent should never be wasted for lack of fees.
To our other partners and sponsors, corporate teams, well-wishers, and organisations who walked with us, contributed, or supported quietly behind the scenes, thank you. We see you, even where we haven’t named you individually here, and we’re grateful for every form your support took.
To every individual who registered, whether you came from CHRM or another institution entirely, whether it was your first time at Ngong Road Forest or your fiftieth, thank you for believing that a few kilometers of your Saturday morning could change the trajectory of someone else’s life.
Somewhere, a Naliaka will open a letter and find that the invoice she was dreading has been covered. She won’t know your name. She won’t know you gave up a lie-in, or that your calves were sore on Monday, or that you paid your registration fee without a second thought about what it might mean for someone else. But because you walked, she gets to stay in school.
That is the whole point of the CHRM Scholarship Fund Walk, and you made it real.
