CHRM College and Catalead Associates Forge Strategic Alliance to Advance Leadership Excellence

Thursday, 13th August 2025 — CHRM College is proud to announce the beginning of a new chapter in leadership development following a high-level partnership meeting with Bishop Emeritus Rev. Dr. David Oginde, Founder and Lead Consultant at Catalead Associates Ltd, and his team. The meeting, held at the CHRM College Boardroom, brought together senior leaders from both organisations to discuss strategic collaboration in leadership training, organisational consultancy, research, and joint events.

“Leadership is the engine that drives every successful organisation. By partnering with CHRM College, we are not only expanding our reach but also ensuring that leaders across sectors are equipped with the skills, ethics, and vision needed to thrive in today’s fast-changing world,” said Rev. Dr. Oginde.

Building on Shared Values and Vision

Rev. Dr. Oginde is a highly respected thought leader, mentor, and organisational strategist whose work has impacted institutions across multiple sectors. His proven leadership modules — grounded in values-based, transformative training — have empowered countless individuals and organisations to achieve excellence and integrity in leadership.

CHRM College’s delegation was led by CHRP Odhiambo Ooko, FIHRM, Board Chair, and included Edna Kiptoon, Vice Chair of the Board, CHRP Rev. Canon Stephine Obong’o, Chair of the Alumni Association, and CHRP Margaret K. Kinyanjui, Principal of CHRM College. Together with the Catalead team, they explored how this partnership could create far-reaching benefits for students, alumni, and the HR and business community at large.

“This collaboration aligns perfectly with CHRM’s mission to nurture competent and ethical leaders who can shape the future of work in Kenya and beyond. Integrating Catalead’s leadership content into our curriculum will give our learners a distinct edge in the marketplace,” noted CHRP Odhiambo Ooko

One of the central outcomes was the shared commitment to embed Catalead’s leadership modules into CHRM’s academic and executive training programs. This will ensure that learners and alumni benefit from practical, values-driven leadership training that can be applied immediately in professional settings.

Looking Ahead

The two organisations agreed to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise the partnership, create a delivery framework for the leadership programs, and roll out targeted training sessions and webinars for the CHRM community.

With this alliance, CHRM College and Catalead Associates are poised to cultivate the next generation of leaders — individuals who will lead with competence, courage, and character.

Unlocking C-Suite Success: The Impact of Current and Former CEOs in Leadership Programs

In the journey of aspiring HR professionals aiming to reach the pinnacle of organizational leadership, the transition to the C-suite demands far more than traditional human resources expertise. It requires a broad and nuanced skill set, encompassing strategic thinking, financial acumen, leadership communication, governance knowledge, and the ability to navigate complex boardroom dynamics. Programs like the HR to CEO® Masterclass by CHRM College, designed and led in partnership with current and former CEOs, exemplify the transformative power of learning directly from those who have walked the path to the corner office.

The involvement of experienced CEOs as trainers and mentors profoundly enhances the impact of leadership development programs, providing aspiring leaders with unparalleled credibility, real-world insights, and personalized guidance that textbooks and conventional classroom settings cannot match.

First and foremost, the credibility that current and former CEOs bring to the training experience is invaluable. These seasoned leaders have been through the rigors of leadership at the highest level. Their teachings are not theoretical constructs but drawn from firsthand experiences, successes, failures, challenges, and triumphs alike. This authenticity creates a learning environment grounded in reality, where participants hear not just what works but also the pitfalls to avoid. CEOs openly share lessons learned in navigating market disruptions, leading organizational change, and making strategic decisions under pressure. For HR professionals aspiring to ascend to the CEO role, such real-world insights are critical. They help bridge the gap between HR functional expertise and the broader operational lens that the C-suite demands.

Moreover, the role of mentorship and coaching by CEOs within these programs adds a personalized dimension to leadership development. Unlike standard training sessions, mentorship offers tailored guidance that addresses an individual’s strengths, challenges, and career aspirations. Current and former CEOs provide insider perspectives on navigating the complex dynamics of senior leadership roles such as how to influence a board, how to align diverse stakeholders around a vision, and how to lead with resilience in uncertain times. This mentorship is beneficial in preparing participants to handle the unique pressures and responsibilities that come with executive roles, enabling them to think and act like a CEO well before they reach that position.

Learning from leaders who have driven business growth, shaped organizational culture, and mastered corporate governance is a cornerstone of executive education programs such as CHRM College’s HR to CEO® Masterclass. Boardroom experience, often an elusive skill for HR professionals, is critical for those aspiring to top leadership roles. CEOs who have successfully steered organizations through governance structures and ensured regulatory compliance impart crucial knowledge on risk management and internal controls. Their insights demystify how to engage effectively with boards of directors and executive committees, helping future CEOs to contribute confidently at that level.

Additionally, these CEOs’ deep involvement in driving business growth provides participants with a blueprint for long-term organizational success. Understanding the interplay between organizational culture and business strategy, themes consistently covered in these programs, helps HR professionals move beyond operational roles into leaders who shape and nurture cultures conducive to innovation and performance.

Furthermore, the inclusion of digital literacy training relevant to the C-suite, alongside leadership communication, coaching, mentorship, and shadowing opportunities, ensures a comprehensive and immersive learning journey. The secret codes and soft skills imparted by seasoned CEOs prepare participants not only to survive but thrive as executives.

In sum, the participation of current and former CEOs in leadership development programs transforms aspiring HR professionals into well-rounded leaders ready to claim their place in the C-suite. Their credibility enriches the learning content, their mentorship accelerates personal and professional growth, and their insights into governance, growth, and culture equip participants with the confidence and competence to lead at the highest level. Programs like the HR to CEO® Masterclass, designed with this rare and rich involvement, are invaluable platforms for HR professionals poised for the corner office, marking a decisive step in reshaping the future of organizational leadership.
