Security Management course at the College of human Resource Management-CHRM is offered in collaboration with, The Institute of Certified Safety and Security Professionals of Kenya-ICSSPK, an independent body for security professional career development in Kenya. The course has been designed after a thorough consultation with stakeholders through the Ministry of Education under CDACC to address security gaps in training professionals. Leaners taking this program gain professional registration with ICSSPK.
‘Security for all’ is a key aspect as enshrined in The Constitution of Kenya 2010.Traditionally the role of security has been viewed as a low skilled guarding function, and it is only in the last decade that the security has begun to drive security management towards the status of a profession. The College of Human Resource Management-CHRM believes that the subject area of security management may include the study of accidents, hazards, risk, disasters and much more, as well as management and criminology.
The subject is concerned with the protection of assets from threats: hence the overlap with criminology when the threat is crime. And also enlighten the stake holders in the security field, Business and society at large on causes of security and risk management and practical Measures of curbing the menace.
The Level 6 (Diploma) course in Security Management is intended to meet the national needs on capacity building in the police, prison and private security firms. Security studies provide a rich knowledge directly concerning these institutions. It offers research techniques and contributes to institutional reforms. The Programme is designed for students or clients who wish to pursue careers in police services, forensic investigations, human Rehabilitation services and security management. The private sector will find the trainees useful in security management and related roles. In general, it is expected that this programme will complement and sustain the professionalization of the police, prison and probation services in East Africa and beyond.
